Shock Claim: Dem Majority Leader hasn’t spoken to Dem Governor in over a year

State Senator Debbie Halvorson’s ties to Governor Rod Blagojevich are well documented whether it’s voting for the Gross Receipts Tax, stalling ethics reform, waffling on a recall amendment, or voting herself and Rod Blagojevich a pay increase.

Now that she’s a candidate for Congress, in an attempt to re-write history, Senator Halvorson, who is the state’s senate majority leader and former rules committee chairman, is claiming she hasn’t spoken to Governor Blagojevich in more than a year.

“Senator Halvorson cannot have it both ways. She’s either stretching the truth or she’s not doing her job,” said State Senator Christine Radogno. “That’s not the type of change the people of Illinois are seeking from their elected officials.”

If Senator Halvorson’s campaign claim is true then that means Senator Halvorson has not spoken to Governor Blagojevich about signing an ethics bill, about preventing legislative pay increases, gas tax relief for Illinois families, or corruption within his administration.

“It’s well known that Governor Blagojevich has attended Senate Democrat Caucus meetings and is strong allies with Senate President Emil Jones,” added Radogno.

“Even though I find it hard to believe that Senator Halverson has had no contact with the Governor during these meetings, I find it more troubling to think that someone with that kind of leadership position hasn’t used it to stand up for people or against a governor who is taking the state in the wrong direction,” Radogno said.
