$613,824, and we’re counting

The bill continues to climb, as Blago refuses to compromise on a state budget.

This is the estimated cost of keeping lawmakers in Springfield so far. Gov. Rod Blagojevich has ordered them to stay in overtime until they can give him a budget deal to his liking. Such things as lawmakers’ meals, housing and mileage can cost upward of $42,000 a day.

Budget action

None, but a plan providing power bill relief was approved. Some lawmakers said they’d not consider a budget until a deal passed.

Congrats Democrats…For Nothing

It’s clear that the Democratic leadership of this state is lost in the land of unicorns and pixies - Not Springfield. Come home…Please come home! The hardworking men and women of Illinois need leadership not childish games.

A dark day in Springfield was marked by black roses Wednesday, the 55th day of the special legislative session on the budget. That’s a record.

The session breaks the old record of 54 days set three years ago. Lawmakers do not appear to be close to a settlement of the budget standoff.

The situation is so grim politically, they can’t even agree on the significance of Wednesday’s milestone. Governor Blagojevich says he is proud to be setting this overtime record, kind of like Barry Bonds and the home run chase, because, Blagojevich says, he is fighting for basic Democratic principles of more money for education and health care. But one Republican lawmaker is comparing Blagojevich to the captain of the Titanic, steering the ship of state toward an iceberg. Continue reading.

Blago’s Hot Potato

Hot Potato

Looks like Rezko tainted money Blago took is having a hard time finding a home. Hilarious!

Only days after Antoin “Tony” Rezko was indicted on federal corruption charges last fall, Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s campaign moved quickly to try to limit the fallout and gave to charity political donations directly linked to one of the governor’s former top advisers and fundraisers. But one charity eventually turned down the tainted money and sent the Blagojevich campaign a check back in March for $44,846.03, according to state-mandated campaign disclosure reports the governor recently filed.

Officials for the Texas-based Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, now known as Susan G. Komen for the Cure, said they returned the money because they do not accept political funds.

They said they were not aware of the reason behind the Blagojevich campaign’s original donation.  Click here to continue to read article.

Remember this?

Check

Remember this stunning moment? And just like he dances around the $1500 check issue, he refuses to tell Illinoisans just exactly what the feds are interested in with all those reported subpoenas. (Click here to read the Tribune article on Blagojevich’s subpoenas.) Why don’t we start a ticker counting how many days it takes Governor Blagojevich to answer questions regarding the subpoenas? Starting today we are at 62.

Blago’s Plane Rides

Plane

Governor Blagojevich has an expensive habit of flying on private jets. It is costing Illinois taxpayers thousands of dollars a day!

Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s practice of flying from Chicago to Springfield and back for daily budget negotiations is costing taxpayers more than $5,800 a day, for a total of roughly $76,000 and climbing.

An Associated Press analysis of state flight records shows Blagojevich made eight round trips on state airplanes from May 22 to June 7. He spent an average of less than five hours in Springfield each time, including travel time to and from the capital airport.

On a ninth trip, he stayed over two nights as lawmakers tried to meet their May 31 budget-approval deadline. The cost of the travel was $52,540.
